MOONSHINE JUG + STRING BAND
(precursor to 'The Angels')
(a.k.a 'Angel City' in the USA)

Many years ago I designed sound (PA) amplifiers for some of the leading musicians in South Australia. One of these was a group called "Moonshine Jug and String Band" with JBJ (John Brewster-Jones), his brother, Rick, and 'Doc' Neeson.

moon1.gif - 4.5 K While browsing in a London record store recently, I came across this CD from the "Moonshine Jug + String Band" titled "Rent Party". After rubbing my eyes in surprise a few times - I bought it. I suggest you buy it, too. It is classic 'Moonshine', foot tapping, lively, innovative music. Now you, too, can see and hear the genesis of the music of 'The Angels'

It was originally published by Mushroom Distribution.
The only identification on it is the barcode :"9-398601-021229".

I have had a lot of email over the years complaining that the CD is not available, so I am putting up two sample tracks so that you yourself can revisit the genesis of 'The Angels' and generate the energy to go looking for a copy of the CD (which has 20 tracks on it).

Most of the tracks have vocals by John Brewster, but "Blues my Naughty Sweetie" features Doc Neeson prominently. "Jailhouse" is an excellent example of a JBJ lead.

"Blues My Naughty Sweetie" features Doc on vocals. I always remember that Doc did a good job out front in Moonshine, and never really understood why he was initially passed over as lead when The Angels were formed. What do you think?
